12th Annual Marcia Lemkin Lowell, MA 5k Summary
by Chip Bradley
Medford Square at 6:10 am. The Coffee shop is on the first floor of
this old building. Rode here on my WORKING bike and then rode on to
West Medford to pick up a Zipcar - to drive about 30 miles to Lowell for
the race.
Here's the bike - fully functional now!
Got to the Zipcar and had to wait a bit for the rental period to begin
You access these cars with a plastic card, which unlocks the car at the
beginning of the rental period. No people are involved and you do this
stuff online.
While killing time, I took these pics of flowers on a side street in
West Medford.
3 more morning glories
Getting our race numbers
And our shirts
Like the number Lee? We're talkin' prime here. (11 * 7) Totally
unexpected! (Editor's note: Ahem. Not prime, because it's the product of
two numbers. Palindromic, yes. Prime, no.)
Checking the results.
The little arrows indicate the 10 runners in my age group. It appears
there may be a typo in the first few finishers in my division since it
says 1/5, 2/5 and 3/5 rather than 1/10, 2/10 and 3/10. I was happier to
learn I was up against 9 others, rather than 5! (Editor's note: Your
page 1 might have been an incomplete results page.)

More people getting awards.
And others...
And more others
Still more...
Some people were kind enough to take this shot of me getting my award!
I felt good about this race. More consistent training seemed to have
paid off for me today. I didn't break my 23:09 time, but I was pleased
with the 2nd place and my 7:47 pace for the 5k.
