Close To Their Path

To me, this painting represents both a worldly and a personal journey. Sometimes, in life, we seek "avenues" which hopefully will lead to a happiness which is especially meaningful only to us. This is not a selfish thing to do. It is actually a very healthy thing. Yet, as we seek to simplify our complex life, we also try to tailor our choices so that they "fit" into the grand scheme of things. It is not entirely easy for introspective people to "find their path" and at the same time travel the road of life as most others in our society "happily" travel it. The two small islands that move together in this scene are symbolic of humanity both in the individual sense as well as the social sense. The five partially lighted worlds in the star-filled background to me represent the fragmented nature of the one world we know here on Earth. It is our attempt to not only travel together in the spirit of love, but to also find inner peace and grace within a society whose condition is "human" as well. The title for my painting addresses the fine line we must travel as we seek to maintain our individuality in a spirit of service to mankind.
