Greater Geometries

As its title suggests, this painting begins to touch on metaphysics. When I was young, as mentioned in some earlier text for a painting titled "Peaceful Pathways" I was curious about what infinity "looked like." To this day, the size and shape of the Universe has stirred my imagination. Have you also wondered about it? On a deeper level, I have also been curious about the human psyche and how (for some people) it tends to find more comfort in pure form and structure than (for others) it does abstract intangible patterns of thought. It may sound crazy to say this, but I have often wondered why some people find more comfort in cleaning their office than they do in relaxing on a beach with few or no inner thoughts. The latter image sounds quite appealing, yet I would be distorting the truth if I did not admit to a need for order in an otherwise unstructured environment. For this reason, and for reasons which I believe can be traced far back into my own childhood, I am drawn unconsciously BACK to something that may in fact yield a comfort (as evidenced by tangible form, structure, and order). The human psyche, like the uncharted realm of the greater universe, is itself a dynamic thing. I believe LOVE is the binding element which drives the human spirit to seek what it seeks. The answer to each person's unique questions of HOW to find a compatible sort of comfort while living within BOTH Universes, is complex. How can we let go of a known and fairly predictable LINEAR sort of thinking, while at the same time venture out into the unknown which (in spiritual theory) has great promise. My painting merely grazes the surface of a more significant question having to do with letting go of fear. My designs are reflections of my own satisfactions for those things I can make and see. They are more than just pleasing to the eye. They also make me ask what exists beyond that apparent satisfaction. They are pure and simple. And, it is fascinating to realize that "the more abstract answers" to greater experiences in life are themselves JUST as pure and simple. The question of HOW they are not linear is the most interesting one in this "greater geometry." I have often wondered what this "other design" might look like.
