I'm Watching
Sometimes we think more about how others perceive us than we do ourselves.
Sometimes we may even act accordingly -- believing as we do so that others
will accept who we are. And as we delude ourselves in this way, we may also
notice our own delusions -- and hope no one will notice. "I'm watching" is a
spiritual and symbolic scene of this attempt on our part to be someone other
than who we are. The violet structure in the distant center is unique. It
could be thought of as a symbol of our personal separateness in the universe.
It appears dwarfed in relation to the vast landscape -- also symbolic of our
isolation at times. I like to think of the lighted celestial body behind the
spires and plateaus not as a moon, but as a larger and more powerful
planetary body -- having influence over "its own" neighboring lunar
landscape. It appears to be quietly "observing us" as the universe sends
forth a fleeting meteor in a way which is almost "too close" for comfort.
Often the world is a dangerous place and we cannot know how or when events
may occur. And as these unpredictable events take place, we try if we can to
make sense of ourselves while we live with others in the world. Once again,
this scene is merely symbolic of our separateness and self-consciousness
further highlighted by the planet which "watches over" us as we attempt to be
a part of our unpredictable surroundings -- often too aware of our own
presence in it.
