[Note: The following story is very similar to that of "Meeting Place I." With
only minor changes, this story has been written for both paintings." I hope
you enjoy them both.]
"What kind of meeting place is this?" we may ask. How is it trees can meet?
What are they meeting about? And what is being said on this beautiful
snow-covered slope tonight? We cannot know. We can only imagine. The meeting
would be a good one I am sure though. The conversations would be compatible,
clear, and without distraction. There might be a spirit of kindness I think.
Possibly the cold winter air would take a back seat to the beautiful
starlight and the clean powdery snow. There is a softness here. Have you ever
made a snow tunnel as a child? And can you remember how your voice sounded
when you were inside it? Your voice was the only thing that could be heard.
Would it be this way here as well? I imagine so. But there is a difference
here. They are mingling. It is hard to "mingle" in a snow tunnel. They are
communicating something. Their message is a friendly one -- very much like
the message in "Silent Starlit communion", an earlier silk-screen. "Meeting
Place II" is nearly identical to "Meeting Place I." It is simply another
meeting spot somewhere in the universe -- a warm social gathering on a cold,
star-filled wintery night.
