Summer Silhouette

I was drawn to the idea of painting trees again -- this time
silhouetted against a much different sky. The night sky, with its
thought provoking mood was replaced in this case with a pink sky --
a sky we might see after sunset. There is an "openness " about it --
much like the infinite depth in night skies as well. It is a
peaceful sky, filled with warm light we may find in a summer
evening. And, as in so many pictures taken in this light, we see --
in this case -- the distinct outline of the sharply contrasted tree.
As in "Winter Silhouette," I was interested in focusing attention on
the intricate detail and design of the network of branching against
a perfectly simple backdrop of pink light.
On evenings such as this, Venus will often begin to glisten in the
sky above the ever-darkening horizon Purples, deep pinks and blues
will often mix together in what astronomers refer to as the
"zodiacal light."
