The "St Pat's Day" "Ddubbull Cwuzzle"
Somebody, we won't name names, started doing the Hartford Courant crossword
puzzle the other day. Really hard. Got about ten words, maybe, after an hour.
Noticed the author's name appeared at the bottom of the puzzle. Found her email
address. Sent her a note asking for a hint or two. She got back and said "The
theme is Saint Patrick's Day and it was originally published in the New York
Times in March 2002." Went to local library. Checked out microfilm for March
2002. Different puzzle. Back to square one. Actually, I got square one. Back to
square 4-Across. Made progress. Asked for more hints. Got 'em. Finally solved
puzzle. Got a "Wow! 100%! Give the guy a gold star" from the author. Life is
good. Turned crossword into a "ddubbull cwuzzle," two wooden jigsaw puzzles, one
with solution, one without solution, simultaneously cut. Cool feature: as you
assemble the puzzle, you eventually realize you're dealing with TWO separate
puzzles and find toward the end that three or so pieces have been mis-assembled;
they physically fit perfectly but the images are wrong (the pieces are in the
wrong puzzle).
72-piece 8 1/2" x 11" x 1/8" "St Pat's Day!" "Ddubbull Cwuzzle" - Price: $41 -
Intentionally "mix-assembled" (1/2 the pieces are from the puzzle with the
solution, 1/2 are from the unsolved puzzle)
