ceb - Friday, December 1, 2017 at 18:18:01 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Well, I seem to be first this month. Just checking in to say I was sick for a while and have been getting over it. I've been running. This week it's been about 5 miles each day. Garmin maps for Mon, Tue and Wed coming soon. Last week's summary coming soon. Meet "Sunny!" He was born on July 9, 2015. I was fortunate to be given him by a kind customer I met a few days ago where I work. She is getting married and is moving. Sunny is very healthy, somewhat affectionate and quite intelligent. Medium sized, healthy weight. He is 100% indoors. His one and only owner (Fran) was very gentle with him. He's a keeper! She supplied me with many of his toys, special food, bowls and more! This is his third day here. He's still adjusting and likes to hide. Rolling hills, lollypop w/ a short lolly and a big pop. My friend Laurie von Schmidt completed her goal of running in all 169 towns in Connecticut today. We pooled w/ Robyn again, this time dropping off our car at her in-laws in Seymour, driving together to the race, driving back to Seymour after the race where she stayed the day. They cut their tree down in her in-laws' backyard every year. Awards to the top 3 overall, period. I placed 2/4 in the 70s, getting beat by my friend Dan Ciccarillo by about a minute. He and his daughter Amy both ran. Haven't seen them for quite a while. Robyn, Linda and I and a few others tried to find the town sign and learned it had been run into some time back and not replaced. We did find the one in Old Greenwich and took our pix there. Learned they have a great 1/2 marathon in Old Greenwich. April 22, 2018 next year. Hmmmmm. Day after my birthday. Possibility. Might get some white stuff a couple of hours into it. I am sad not to be running it this year but even if I didn't have the foot issue, something has been trying to kick my butt all week and I haven't run. It wouldn't have been pretty if I had to drag my body for 26.2 miles. Anyway, hope it's a good one! MCT - Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 16:40:44 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) The Roxbury Marathon was postponed...whimps!! So next week I'll run that. Therefore today I did 8 miles pre-dawn in Collinsville and then drove to Springfield for the Snowstorm Classic 10K. Nice course in the park and cheap! Finish time was 59:42. Tom Walsh was also there. Chip--I actually drove down Fellsway this week and was thinking of you running there. Editor's note: The original and still by far the most common spelling of this common bit of slang meaning "weakling, coward," is "wimp." If you use the much less common "whimp" instead people may regard you as a little wimpy. I saw Mike's spelling and immediately wondered what you would have to say about it. LOL But I have to admit, I didn't know you could spell it with an h. I've only seen it spelled wimp. So learn something new everyday! Congrats on your 5K! Great goal to go sub-27. I will have to let you know about next Sat. but I'm thinking not because I have the kids and wouldn't want to go for the whole race. Also, feeling the pressure of much to do before Christmas. I ran today - first time since last Sun. 7.5 miles/10:00 pace and then I walked .5 miles. Kind of tough. I need to work on getting stronger! ceb - Monday, December 11, 2017 at 02:22:23 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 7.5 miles miles. Icy! Chilly 34 degrees. Took the Groton loop twice. I always thought there was an "h" in there. Oh well. After all that maybe I am a wimp because I skipped Roxbury to run the Norfolk 10 mile race. Hadn't done it in a few years and really wasn't ready for a marathon. Norfolk was fun. Finished in 1:44 which was a 10:07 pace. Today I ran Ragged Mountain at sunrise with the CT Trailmixers. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2382826445 lrb - Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 23:48:41 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Well, Taricani is hardly a wimp. At least he did the 10 miler. I on the other hand blew off both Roxbury and the Pub. I think I may have to add yet another graphic here, perhaps it will be SP.JPG which of course would stand for Snail Pace. I managed my fav run, the venerable 'Nihilator this morning but almost walked 1/2 of it. 6.2 miles. I did not log a couple of short things I did on Tuesday and Thursday. So ... good for Chas, Tray, and you Mike. I'd show my Garmin but it died early in my run this morning. I need to charge both it and myself. Oh, I think we're all becoming better spellers :-) tlz - Monday, December 18, 2017 at 01:47:02 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Hey Mike, I was wondering why I didn't see your name in the Roxbury results. Sounds like you had a decent race at Norfolk. Was it cold? ;) I ran 7.5 miles/10:00 pace. 14 miles for the week. Gonna try to get my weekly mileage into the 20s soon. We received an incredibly ridiculous offer on the house so you might as well say no offer and Joe has turned out to be the worst mistake of my life. Things are complete crap over here and I can't get him to move out even though I offered to pay the whole mortgage and expenses! I really can't vent to our mutual friends but all of you were my friends first. Everybody sees Joe as patient, kind, laid back, helpful. No one sees what my kids and I deal with - manipulative, petty, hypocritical, and irrational Joe, blaming my 14 year old son for our break-up. Ugh! Kharma is all I got to say! Kharma! ceb - Monday, December 18, 2017 at 04:35:56 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 12.0 miles at a 9:19/mile pace. Did four 3-mile Groton Farm loops. May garmin was off by 0.20 miles on the distance for an unknown reason which showed up on the map beginning shortly after the run began. The pace felt pretty accurate though. It felt cold again. 27? F with no wind chill. No stars tonight. Cloudy. Answered an RSVPed invitation for a Concord Runners New Year's Day Party at Richard and Anne Fortier's -- an annual event with dancing and music and food from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Have not been running with the group hardly at all for a while and am thinking it would be good to hook up again for 8:00 am Saturday runs. Sorry to hear about that unappealing house offer, Tracy. And it does sound 'unfortunately uncomfortable' with not being really recognized for all the work you've been doing. Glad you opened up here. I hope things get better soon. Wishing you well with the running this week. I'm trying to forget about some rain that might be coming! Ugh! Lee, I think the break from Roxbury was entirely forgivable. Sometimes a break is just the right thing to do. And that potential Snail Pace descriptor image looks like a "go" to me. Kinda large though. Maybe a snailed down version might fit nicely when we run at that pace. I like it. Spelling error intentional... Mondays have become my "take it easy-slog along" running day. Pace was 12:31 but that did include hills with a 400' elevation. Did trails on Sunday and then relaxed. This week I have a long trip through central and northern Maine. Maybe I'll see a moose on my morning runs! Tracy--a bad offer is better than no offer! We have nothing but our realtor said that 5 looked at it yesterday during the open house. Waiting for his call today. And too bad about the living conditions. You'll get through it and move on. Mike, I hope something good happens with your house soon. We lost our crappy offer - they've decided to wait until after the holidays. UGH! I'm debating staying here with the kids but have to get Joe off the title and mortgage. Was really hoping to start fresh but trying to look at it from a different perspective in that maybe things are the way they are for a reason. Got that damn Forrest Gump quote in my head, "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get!" MCT - Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 14:23:59 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) I ran in 3 cities in Maine. The Presque Isle run was the best even though in 6" of snow. The reason is that as I plodded around town on my run I came across a "rail-to-trail" path that was illuminated and PLOWED! I actually saw the machine they use. Kind of like a John Deer tractor with a 4" wide snow blower. I guess the town likes walkers and runners because this path was cleared before some roads. It has small street lights along the way. Today I ran out to Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton. Small park with simple trails. About 4 miles total and mostly easy non-technical. Very hilly though. And to continue my obsession with challenges tomorrow will start the Winter Warrior Challenge put on by Sound Runner.
