Good runs this week with a big one today. 11 miles down Rt 179 from Canton
to Unionville. Even ran through that ice storm yesterday. If I can do 11
miles can I do a half again? Time will tell.

I have been sooooooo delinquent in posting! Sidetracked with wedding stuff.
I have important milestones to report, though not running-related. LOL I
finally hit the 100 lb mark for max lift on my bench press! I was so stupid
excited, nearly walking on air. I did it first in the gym on the Smith machine,
which is what you use when you want to prevent accidentally killing yourself.
LOL The weight bar goes up and down on a track and you can put the stoppers
at the bottom in case the bar comes crashing down. This has never happened
to me, btw, but I have nearly trapped myself under the bar where I had to
almost limbo out from under it. :D

Then I tried lifting 100 lbs in my garage - we recently bought a bench press
set. So if you're not familiar with lifting, it's much harder to lift free
weight than on a Smith machine, due to having to engage your core muscles
to stabilize the bar. It was a little dicey but I was able to do it and
I'm still working on getting stronger.

My other accomplishment - I am finally able to do a pull up! Guys may not
appreciate this so much bc I think it just comes easier to men but I have
been struggling for months to do a pull up. So this weight stuff probably
won't do me a lick of good for ultra races but it's a ton of fun!

Mike, absolutely, you can push out 2 more miles!

Lee, woo hoo - you're getting close!

I was planning on continuing my mini running buildup last week when I
slipped and fell (indoors) going down a flight of smooth, hard stairs
six days ago on Feb 4. It was just getting home from work on a wet icy
night. Shoes were still wet and slippery rounding the corner on the
last flight of 7 stairs to my door!

I banged my lower-right back rib pretty badly since I landed on my
back slightly to one side. I saw the doctor on the 8th and he said I
may have cracked that rib -- and there is probably nothing they can do
following the Xray -- which I am going to be getting soon. The pain
feels mostly muscular near the surface. The pain level has definitely
been high for the last 6 days. The good news is that I have no nerve
or spine issues -- just muscular. He said I'd just have to live with
it for about 6 weeks. Advil has helped.

Sleeping at night's been rough, but in the day I'm able to still work
with only some twinges in that area.

I experimented with a slow jog in our warehouse at work yesterday for
about 5 seconds and had no issues so I may try to get out there in
these next 3 days (I'm not scheduled to work. Yay!). Obviously, I'll
be careful. Just need to MOVE at this point.

Anyway, just checking in. Congratulations Lee on yet one more town
race! And congratulations Tracy on the 100 pound lift and your pullup
success!

Did 3 miles this afternoon after the earlier post. Got it done. Pace
14:05/m. Temp 45 and nice. Ran roads near home and backtracked a lot
to get the 3 in.

Good runs again this week. Able to do solid sub 13:00/mile runs. Did 11 miles
today which makes three weeks in a row doing 10+ on Saturday. Saturday was
always my long run day so I'm happy to be back in that mode. My running is
not fast but my pace is becoming more consistent and comfortable. I'll definitely
be doing a half this year. Maybe Colchester. Tracy the weight lifting is
supposed to be good for runners. Congrats on the new achievements. I should
do more especially because as a senior, we have free access to many gyms
under the Medicare Silver Sneakers program. Chip good to see you're still
working at it.

ran in the neighborhood off brickyard w/ Lani, Peter Hawley & Linda. I
ran about 4.5, Lani and Peter did about 5. The excess can be accounted
for by the fact that they looped back a bunch of times to rejoin me.

we are still learning the neighborhood. count the number of misturns in
the route below. Lani has a Polar watch (she gave her Garmin to Peter).
She showed us the route we ran (after BlueToothing it to her phone). She
played the run and it showed a little red dot traversing the circuitous
route.

Too bad about Bill Tribou. An inspiration to all especially us older runners.
This week was all good. Had my best run in NJ on a business trip. I'm ready
for the Colchester Half tomorrow. It will be my 8th time running it and almost
guaranteed my slowest. But that's OK. I would have preferred nice dry roads,
which might be the case, but those dirt roads could be frozen or a mud bath.

It was a good day. The Colchester Half was fun and a success. My time was
slow, 2:42, but I finished my first half in three years. It felt great after
the knee and heart issues that complicated my running. Conditions were good
considering we had a snowstorm just yesterday. The paved roads were dry but
the dirt roads were a little icy. This was my 38th half maraton and my 8th
time running this race. Temps warmed up nicely after the start.

Congrats on Colchester, Mike! I forgot all about it. Ran 2 loops at Rogers
Orchards with Brent this morning. Got very cold towards the latter part of
the second loop. Tried my orthotics on a 6 mile run yesterday and had some
soreness so didn't wear them today. Not sure if I'm supposed to break them
in. Would've been nice if the doctor told me!
