Lee...."legend" I'm not but "Logey" definitely applies today. It was great to meet Bill Rogers last night. I met him in the hall before the lecture and we talked a few minutes about running. I actually saw Kate's FB post and figured that was the race. It's gonna be too hot tomorrow to put forth a good effort. I will try to get up early and run around my neighborhood before the afternoon festivities in our hood. I wasn't going to run today but just couldn't resist the beautiful weather - not! 6 miles/8:57. The sun went behind a cloud at times and there was an occasional breeze. I was grateful for both. I'll be starting early on Sat. (to try to beat the heat) but will plan to meet everyone at the Brickyard lot. MCT - Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 12:17:13 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Did 10 miles out to Nassahegon Forest. Pace was 11:15. I was told there are 30+ miles of trails at Nassahegon and sure enough there are tons of trails. These are used for biking, hiking, and running. Trails are 8' to 10' wide, mostly flat, not very technical. Some roots and trees across the trail in places. Some of it is part of the Tunxis Trail. There is parking and port-o-potties across the street. Great place to have some training runs prior to the fall. Link to Nassahegon site: Nassahegon Bike Trail review with map. On Saturday I plan on running to Brickyard at the VDP to meet Tracy. Then do the trail before I peel off and run back home. I know my entries have been few and far between but I just wanted to check in to say I've made a decision to reduce my running out of some necessity to deal with some arthritis / muscle issues which also seem to get worse following runs. This is not to say good-bye to all of you though. I'll drop in from time to time (to record a run and say hi). I've been doing some "meditation / healthy-eating group things" here in my home town and things are going really well with that. Anyway, just felt like saying keep up the good work. You guys are awesome. PS. I did run 3 miles in the heat today. Also ran on July 4th (2 miles) in similar heat. Both were good. Making a lot of diet-related changes which help with this decision to back off a lot (from running). Again, I'll try to check in here from time to time. Peace. I could get used to this weather - what a difference! Came home and hit the hot tub. I'm not sure how much of a benefit it was to do my longer run today instead of tomorrow (since I couldn't start it until 5:30 p.m.). It really only gave me an extra 12-14 hours of recovery time. The weather for Petit looks to be pretty normal for that race - humid and high 80s. We really should be grateful because starting on Mon., temps will be in the 90s with the heat index 100 or above, lasting for several days! Would've been a lot easier! Just came back from a 5 mile run/9:42 pace. Did 4 x 1 min. pick-ups - pace around 6:45. Wish we could bottle this weather for tomorrow. Tonight's 4 miler will be outside starting at 8pm. tlv - Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 12:38:42 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Took yesterday off. Got up early this morning to fit in 6 miles/9:54 pace before Barry went to work. Not that it hasn't been hot, but it's going to be an absolute scorcher today. I was happy to find a lot of shade this morning, yet still sweat off 2 1/2 lbs. lrb - Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 16:24:22 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 7.14 at 10:25 min. per mile on foot then 5.51 at 10.8 miles per hr on bike ... and yes, it's hot. I did this at 7 AM so it wasn't too bad. Going swimming tonight. MCT - Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10:50:44 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 5.5 miles at 11:02 pace. Hot and slow. Qualifies for a "hot sweaty mess". Saturday I can be at VDP for a run north to Collinsville. Is 6:00am still a good time? http://connect.garmin.com/activity/344793150 tlv - Friday, July 19, 2013 at 12:21:04 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) I didn't make it out there early this morning so will either wait until late afternoon, when Barry gets home, or row in the A/C while watching GH. :) Tomorrow at 6 am at VDP sounds good. We'll run towards Collinsville for a change. My MIL and I were laughing on the phone last night at how temps. in the mid-80s next week will be refreshing. LOL lrb - Friday, July 19, 2013 at 13:30:20 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Distance: 6.66 mi Time: 1:09:42 Avg Pace: 10:28 min/mi Elevation Gain: 288 ft Calories: 718 C w/ Wanda and Theresa tomorrow at VDP at 6 AM ... looks like the trinamic trio of ultragirl, whereintheworld and yourstruly ... Slackin''s (note the double apostrophe) a Maniac, Lea's a volunteer ... I think Tray's talkin' not too long ... maybe 12? I want to go 15 on Sunday ... might have Wanda as company ... anybody in? ... have no idea where I'm going. LMC - Friday, July 19, 2013 at 13:33:57 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 5 miles last night at 7:45pm in 52:45.. Temp. was not that bad. tlv - Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 01:16:53 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Well, I couldn't stop twitching. LOL I gave into temptation and ran at 3:45 p.m. I have never run in 108 degree weather before! I now have a new appreciation for Badwater participants. I only did 5.5 miles/9:34 pace. At times, there was a breeze. It was a hot breeze but, nevertheless, air was moving! Then there were times when the sun came out full force and it felt like I was running in front of a firepit. I read on my ultra list that a couple of ultras have been cancelled this weekend due to the excessive heat. I got a Mission Enduracool Bandana from Lowe's (of all places) tonight. Barry said they probably carry that stuff for the construction workers out in the heat. Can't wait to try it in the AM. MCT - Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 13:53:22 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Did 12 miles with Tracy and Lee from VDP up to Canton. Hot but not a bad run. Pace was 10:52. After I stopped by Nassahegon State Park to check the trails. Very technical with many rocks, roots, steep hills, etc. Some parts were 2 foot wide with heavy brush scraping as I ran. I enjoyed it but may not be fun for others unless you like that stuff. I ran/walked 2 miles but it was apparent there were many more miles of trails crisscrossing in the forest. First link below is the 12 mile the second is Nassahegon Trails. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/345299516 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/345299486 LMC - Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 15:29:02 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6 miles today on the treadmill. lrb - Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 15:32:39 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Did 12 w/ Mike and Tray ... VDP to Collinsville and back. Can't seem to upload my Garmin so had to read the pace from the watch. 11:05. Was draggin' toward the end. Too much wine at outdoor concert last night. Saw Barb briefly when we were about 2 miles away from VDP on return leg. Before I get chewed out by Tray ... will "train" smarter before longish run in the future. Also, will not run the 15 I talked about earlier tomorrow. MCT - Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 11:35:58 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Resting the legs today. LMC - Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 13:53:49 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) You guys should have done your long run today! I did 16 at brickyard in 3 hours flat. Weather was PERFECT! tlv - Monday, July 22, 2013 at 00:01:30 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) I agree, Lea, much better weather today. I did 10 miles/9:56 pace. lrb - Monday, July 22, 2013 at 00:59:01 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Day off. Mile repeats tomorrow nite. MCT - Monday, July 22, 2013 at 10:31:54 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 8 miles this morning at 10:43 pace. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/346461034 tlv - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 00:08:51 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6 miles total: 1 mile w/u, followed by 4 miles/8:07 pace (8:13, 8:05, 8:08, 7:57, no recovery), 1 mile c/d. lrb - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 02:01:56 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Similar to Tray but (hard to believe) a bit quicker. 1 mile w/u 1 mile c/d. 7:33, 7:30, 7:45, 7:28. Sri, Theresa, Brent and me. MCT - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:20:06 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6 miles in Mahwah New Jersey at 10:56 pace. Rainy, hot, humid. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/346962578 tlv - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 11:23:19 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Actually our workouts weren't similar so it's not hard to believe why your repeats were faster. You had a recovery of 800 meters in between each repeat to allow your heart rate to go down; I ran my 4 miles all together without any recovery breaks. Two very different things. lrb - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 14:10:49 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Sorry about the comparison of two very different workouts. I think I did notice you had no jog sessions between your miles but never corrected my comparison. Nice pace for 4 consecutive miles Tracy. Did 9 today traveling from Wethersfield to Goodwin Park and back in a loop. A little rainy. 10:30 pace. tlv - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 23:58:47 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) No apology necessary, Lee. My OCD/anal retentive ways got the better of me and I felt the need to reiterate that I didn't take any recovery segments. 5 miles/9:27 pace. It felt almost as hot as last week - I was sweating like crazy. LMC - Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 23:59:48 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Well, the plan was to run outside, but the rainstorm cancelled that plan. Ran 5 miles on the treadmill, worked hard for the first 4 miles and did a 1 mile cool down. Watched the gym parking lot flood and some water got inside. MCT - Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 10:48:16 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6.5 miles locally. 10:50 pace. I'm doing more large hills as I get ready for the Bristol Half marathon on Aug 18th. That has one of the biggest hills I've ever seen in a half. Tracy/Lee.....At the Board of Selectman meeting last night I asked about the missing port-o-john that was budgeted for the trail. Unbelievable answer.....the police, parks/rec, and highway department have had meetings to decide where to place it. They can't agree on what spot is best therefore they won't place it. Decision by committee doesn't work. Plus none of these people use the trail. I tried to stress that ANYWHERE is perfect. They can't place it in a bad spot. I tried. One would think that since I requested it and I use the trail that they could ask me for an opinion. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/347462399 tlv - Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 13:17:41 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 8 miles/9:40 pace. Muggy! OMG Mike, seriously? You should write to the papers or contact WTNH on your side. The public needs to be informed so they can cause a ruckus. They don't know where to put it! Holy cow, if I had been there to hear that. How about the lack of trash cans in the one parking lot? They don't know where to put those either? IDIOTS! lrb - Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 15:33:09 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Did a real short, real slow under 3 mile run in my "backyard" this morning. I think Mike should email the last few posts here to the appropriate authorities. Tracy, you're a riot. MCT - Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 10:59:13 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6.5 miles at 10:55 pace. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/347934212 LMC - Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:36:58 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 8 miles outside last night in 1:18:00. Felt really good. lrb - Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 14:53:25 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) http://www.mapmyrun.com/workout/337356825 http://www.mapmyrun.com/workout/337413575 About 13 miles. First part involved a new way to get to the Folly Brook trail. Second part was about a mile longer than what the link shows; battery died on cell phone. It was 56 degrees when I left my house at 6:45. Ran it w/ Wanda. LMC - Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 19:45:59 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) How do the shirts run? I'll take a small if they are men's cut t-shirts. tlv - Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 23:37:34 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 6 miles/9:20 pace. It's like we jumped into October or something! MCT - Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10:09:59 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 5.25 miles today at 11:15 pace. Took it easy on a cool rainy morning. Tomorrow not sure what people are doing but I will do a long 20 miles incorporating trails at Nassahegon and extreme hills in Bristol. It's going to be a long morning starting at 5am. BTW...shirt size is large. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/348397815 LMC - Friday, July 26, 2013 at 12:11:06 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Took Thursday as my rest day. Went to bed at 8:00pm and slept straight through to 6:30am. Guess I needed the sleep. Tonight will be a very slow 4 miles (to make up for yesterday) and then 17 is on the books for tomorrow. I will be at the old parking lot for 6:30am. tlv - Friday, July 26, 2013 at 12:21:39 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Forgot to mention - I won't be around on Sat. (going to NJ). Hope everyone has a nice long run. Oh, and for the shirt, I guess I would be a medium. MCT - Friday, July 26, 2013 at 12:51:39 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) BTW....I will design my run to include part of the Brickyard trail. I expect to be on the trail south of the old parking lot around 7am. I will peel off and head to Burlington from there. lrb - Friday, July 26, 2013 at 13:02:17 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Did a little over 10 w/ Theresa and Wanda this morning. Leaving for Watkins Glen shortly. I'll put something up on the blog for tomorrow. Alice Sarginger Carrillo expressed an interest in joining anyone who shows up. I see Lea is a 6:30 old parking lot definite and Mike is a will be somewhere on the trail around 7:00. Tray's away. Lani is Iron Man Lake Placid. Don't know about Brent. Have a great weekend everybody. Follow Lani. Send her strength. LMC - Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 13:46:57 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) First training fail today. Goal was 17, made it through 8. I had to run 8 tomorrow, so I'll attempt the 17 again on Sunday. Legs were not having it today. MCT - Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 14:00:23 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 21 miles on the BIG hills. Ran up the steepest hill I've ever done which is called Taine Mountain. That hill alone was a 350' elevation increase within a 1/2 mile. Total elevation for the run was 1,747' which was mostly in the first 9 miles. Note the Garmin graphs. The big hill started at 5.5 miles. After all that hill business I headed for the Heritage Trail joining it near Collinsville. I ran back past the VDP to Unionville but didn't see anyone so I headed on Rt 177 towards Plainville. I struggled the last couple of miles but overall a good training run. Avg pace was 11:44/mile which is what I expected with the hills. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/348924882 lrb - 7/27/2013 14.1 miles in hills and on the trails of Watkins Glen. LMC - Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 18:02:56 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 17 today at B-yard in 3:10:15. A lady was warning everyone about a bear sighting about 1/2 mile up from the brickyard parking lot. Stairs are not my friend right now! MCT - Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:25:25 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 7.5 miles down to Bristol. 10:54 pace. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/350092295 LMC - Monday, July 29, 2013 at 12:23:32 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Thank goodness it is a cross training day. My legs hurt so bad! I did cover 25 miles over 24 hours this past weekend alone - so almost a marathon! Looking forward to yoga class tonight. lrb - 7/29/2013 16.1 in Watkins Glen on Sunday. 7.12 miles in Watkins Glen on Monday. MCT - Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 10:34:26 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 7 miles in Buffalo NY around the University. Nice and cool. MCT - Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:14:38 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) Ran 8 miles in Burlington. Hilly route. Pace was 10:49. Great run today. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/351133760 LMC - Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:40:46 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) 4 miles last night in 36 minutes. tlv - Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 12:05:10 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time) I miss posting on the log. :( Also, I apologize for posting a couple of bogus workouts to cover for the fact I was getting ready for the 24 hour race. In order to keep my head on straight and stay focused, I needed to keep it quiet and not talk much about it. Not sure when I'll go for my first post-race run. I may go for a walk tomorrow. My blisters are slowly shrinking and my muscles are slowly loosening. So for now, I live vicariously through all of your running workouts. Though Mike is starting to intimidate me with all of his hill training. :) lrb - 7/31/2013 5.82 @ 11:49 pace - Catherine Valley trail. |
