We bought a redbud (Forest Pansy) tree from Woodland Gardens in Manchester
and planted it in our front yard. (We had a big tree cut down and the stump
removed and wanted something to replace it.)

I love the red bud tree planting pic!
Looks like you did a great job on that!!
Great choice in trees.

Hmmm. My report is seriously lacking in mileage.
But I swallow my pride and report in!

  May 3 3 miles @ 10:54/m
April 30 1.77 miles (walked) ~ 24:00/m
April 28 3 miles @ 10:06/m

Weekly summary 4/24 to 4/30 3 miles run, 3.14 miles walked

I received word from Gallery Twist in Lexington today
and unfortunately my work was not accepted for the June show. It was
interesting to experience a "rejection" thinking all the while there
wouldn't be one. But I chalk this up as simply that. No need to get
all crazy over it. Life goes on!

I am reading a book now. The Alchemist. I'm about 1/3 into it. It's
a great story (a famous fable by Paulo Coelho) about life's lessons
and one man's quest to follow his dream.

On another totally different matter -- but actually related since it
ain't easy growing up, I took this picture yesterday of some Oriental
Poppy seeds. They are under a full spectrum light now. I was
surprised how many germinated! Each cell-pack unit is just under 1.5
inches wide.

Chip, I'm sorry about the art show too. It's disappointing for sure but I

Thanks Tracy. I like the lyrics in that song! Yes, I feel better
about it actually. And you're right, there are other "doors" with new
pathways ahead.

Then of course, there is always the quote by the famous comedian,
Milton Berle "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door!" I love
that one. :)

So I am mentally gearing up for a race I signed up for in 2020, but
which I chose to defer until 2021 (and to NOT do virtually). Two
nights ago I got an email from the Bay State HALF marathon
coordinators with a special coupon which (if used) would negate the
pricey ($75) cost (which I payed 15 months ago) such that it would
guarantee me an actual spot in the reduced capacity field. I sent the
form in and got the spot. The race is on the weekend of October 16th.
Lee, I put in your phone number both as an emergency contact AND
someone who will receive automatic texts updates on my progress. I've
not picked a goal time yet, but put in 1:56:00 as a sort of shot in
the dark time. I think that's an 8:57 pace. It's been so long I
can't remember WHAT I can do. Obviously I will need to train more.
Right now I'm nowhere near that. Anyway, this is just to say I have
committed to that one.

Good luck Tracy in your race decisions.

Rested today - May 12

I joined the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) May 8th and signed up for
my first hike for Thursday, May 13. There was room only for 9 hikers
(plus the leader, Cindy Crosby) so I was put on a waiting list. BUT a
few cancellations happened so I was taken off the wait list! Coolness!
The 5 mile hike will take place in a place called Thayer Woods south
of Boston (in or near Cohasset, MA). Looking forward to it.

On another hiking related note, I learned that the guy who does my
taxes for the last 3 years ALSO is an AMC member with his wife (where
they met). Anyway, he said he would let me know of some more local
likes when they happen. -- It's a good way to meet people and see
nature, animals, etc.

MCT - Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 10:44:25 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Been super busy. Here are a few updates. My new running streak is officially
a year old having passed the anniversary date on May 3rd. I ran the Enfield
Mayo de 5K race a couple of weeks ago with a finish time of 30:31 and a pace
of 9:44. Was very happy with that. Unfortunately that race attracts a lot
of seniors so I was 8th in the 60-69 group. I believe the best senior was
running a sub 8min pace! I volunteered at Traprock and Spring Fling. Wanted
to do the HMF Burlington-Collinsville 10K but was to late so I'm volunteering
there. It's my home turf. Work is going great with lots of activity. I spend
most days in NJ and NYC. The people at Konica are great. Still focused on
the Anchor Down Ultra 6 hour race in August. The only requirement to be considered
a finisher is to complete 20 miles in 6 hours. As of now that is very "doable".

ceb - Friday, May 14, 2021 at 01:32:32 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

4 miles through Ayer Center to Groton Shirley Road and back.
Pace was 10:42/m

I ran into traffic problems today and actually got quite lost on my
trip to Cohassit for my first AMC hike. I called the leader 5 minutes
before they all departed about not being able to make it on time. I
drove there anyway and waited about 2 hours for them to return to the
Thayer Woods Parking lot -- which I eventually found. We all chatted
for about 10 minutes and that was nice. Cindy took a group picture
and asked me to be in it despite my no show. There's another hike in
"Blue Hills" in 2 weeks on May 27th which was suggested. Maybe I can
make that one.

Good to hear from you Mike. Sounds like work is going well and you're busy!

On Saturday I decided to try a long run...13.1 miles. I felt good and the
legs were ready so I did a loop that included the Nepaug Reservoir and the
rail trail in Collinsvllie. I kept the pace just under 13:00/mile for the
entire run. Finished in 2h 50min. My goal was to keep it under 3 hours. This
was the longest run since August of 2019. Slow but very happy with the result.
Today I volunteered at the HMF Burlington/Collinsville 10K. Lee looked good
out there as well as many other running friends.

showed up in their AGs. Nice job!

4 miles Sunday 5/16 at 10:08/m. Sunny and hot 79 deg.
Through town on the usual 2 miles out and back loop.

Weekly Summary: 5/10-16 18.0 miles

This picture is a little grainy since I don't yet know how to
convert .HEIF (High Efficiency Image Files from Apple) to .JPG files.
My method was to take a picture of the image on my monitor. My
Android phone makes JPGs. But hey, this has nothing to do with the
picture itself!

This is a pic of the AMC group I was SUPPOSED to have hiked with on
May 13! As an early post here indicated, I got wicked lost on the
cloverleafs of Boston -- and showed up late. I waited for them to
return and the leader (Cindy not shown) took this pic. In some follow
up exchanges. I was able to learn some names and OTHER locations
closer to Ayer to hike. Worcester and Western MA have AMC chapters
with many hikes on the AMC site.

There's a hike on Thursday, May 27 up the "Mount Wachusett loop" in
the early evening. Hikes are free (after membership of $50) so I'm
in. Waiting to hear back about that one.

Anyway, it was good to connect if only briefly here.

Great to hear from you, Mike! I had no idea that Traprock and Spring Fling

So a brief update on Volt (but pretend I never posted this because he gets
so flippin' mad when I tell anyone anything about him!). He had a crap start
to the season with getting injured and missing the first 2 meets. His events
are the 100 m and 200 m. He was not happy with his 1st meet times:

100 m 14.25
200 m 28.46

He has been chipping away at each subsequent meet. This past Sat. was his
4th meet:
100 m 13.31 (28th out of 63 overall)
200 m 27.60 (26th out of 51 overall)

As you can see, he's taken nearly a second off his 100 m and a respectable
improvement on his 200 m as well. Anyway, it's a work in progress. He's
anxious to be amazing out of the gate and I keep telling him he has to work
at it. Seniors are running 11-ish 100 m and 23-ish 200 m.

Remember when I said he wanted to quit in the beginning? Well now, he's
talking about summer training and fall track. He's officially hooked. LOL
He's giving me pointers so I can get my 100 m time down. LOL I've got
goals for myself:

100 m - sub-22
200 m - 45
400 m - 1:35

In NMJ on business today so I stayed at the Courtyard in Wayne. This is becoming
one of my regular hotels. It's across from the Willowbrook Mall and near
some country roads. Perfect for my early morning runs. I did a loop around
the mall and then back into town. Tracy..the Spring Fling was nice weather
but I only volunteered. I'm avoiding technical trails. Traprock was the same
as I only volunteered. It was weird though around the start/finish because
they did not allow spectators so there were only a few people around and
eerily quiet.

Volunteered at the "Last Runner Standing" race at Ragged Mountain. Amazing

hours and I believe 104 miles on the tough technical track. Lee congrats
on the New Hartford 5K. If I hadn't volunteered I would have done it. I'm
looking at shorter races in the near future. Hope to do 1-2 per month if
possible. Tracy you should check out the flats next to Tunxis Mead in Farmington.
