Got a thumbs up from a gal on the way out and an offer of water when I was
finishing up. Also spotted these in what I call the Apple Loop (a U-shaped
section off the main road. All the streets are named with apple names).

This was an 8+ mile run at a 14+ pace. First longish run since last Saturday.

I ran 1+ miles on Monday and Tuesday but did not log them (too pathetic to
even mention).

Thinking about doing the 10/20/30k Fall Distance Festival (Marty and Jim)
on September 18. Here's Gerweck's email. I promise I won't use the extremely
effective way to beat Joe Laskey I employed last year (cut out about 80%
of loop 2 and then claimed I made up the distance by doing an out and back
after completing loop 3).

Thanks for joining us in the past for our scenic 10k loop thru Lordship,
in Stratford.

We guaranteed you'd have a water view every mile, in some areas be within
30 ft or so- And we didn't disappoint! We'd love to see you again Sept 18
on our nearly hill-less course. Whether you were in the 10/20/ or 30k we
hope you hit your goal. We will have three water stops with great kids that
volunteer and will appreciate your smiles. There will be snacks and fluids
when you're done back at the beach. This year we have gift certificates to
the M&F winners of each event thanks to the Beach House Restaurant.

We are excited to be hooked up with a terrific restaurant that's just 1/10
mi from the start/finish. In fact you'll pass it on the way in. The Beach
House will give everyone with our race bib -25% off your bill on race day
or for up to a week after! You can use it just once - they're open for breakfast,
lunch, dinner and cocktails that surely will help you rehydrate after your
run. Make plans to stop in!

Please tell your friends we've got room for more runners. Race day reg is
available. See you soon!

Thank God for Sherry, who gave me a Gu and an ice cold A & W root beer at

I have some good news to report. I was officially hired at Michaels
Art Supplies Store in Chelmsford, MA yesterday. I start next Tuesday
in the custom framing department. It's been 2 years since I did this
kind of work but things hopefully will come back to me. I worked in
custom framing (with Big Picture Framing) from 2009 to 2014. I was
lucky, since a resume I sent out landed in the hands of another
Michaels Store and someone faxed it to the Chelmsford location. The
commute is about 13 miles one way so that's a lot better than the 34 I
used to be doing to Stoneham one way. I'll continue with my current
garden center job -- which is ending sometime in late October. During
the transition from my current job it will be part time at Michaels.
I've been told this will be a full time position and non-managerial -
which I'm actually feeling more comfortable about. I'll be working
with about 3 other framers and be designing and selling jobs. I've
met my manager and the store manager and got good vibes from both.

Also, *today* I learned that all 3 of 3 pieces of some of my art were
accepted into a juried show at a place called Gallery 529 in
Littleton, MA. An exhibitor, who is also a Concord Runner, suggested
I enter the October - November show. I visited the gallery today and
it's realy quite nice! There's even a classy restaurant associated
with it. Marsha Wilcox (who told me about the gallery) displays her
mostly black and white photographs there. I have 1 week to frame the
following 14" x 14" pieces. I hope you enjoy them.

One last NRRC about art (for Lee mainly). I think you are right about
the large piece I was working on. Someday I probably *will* finish
it, but now you've got me thinking about returning to small pieces
again. I think they will keep my interest more -- since they don't
require so much area and subsequent {non-intuitive) planning. Stay
tuned for some new mandala-like drawings from me, Lee...

Finally on a more RUNNING RELATED COMMENT !! -- I JUST entered my name
into the 2nd window of Boston Marathon applications. I completely
forgot to do this on Monday the 12th thru the 16th! On the 19th at
10:00 am I succeeded in getting this done. Any day now I should learn
if my name will (or won't) be on the roster. Ugh! If I miss out on
this, it will be a hard lesson in forgetfulness.

Mike, I hope that soreness in the ankle goes away quickly! Sounds like
it might.

Forgot to log Wed. - 5 miles/9:18 pace. This morning before work I did the
Apple Harvest race route - 40:22/8:05 pace and that was hard! The last time
I ran that race was in my golden year - 2013 at a 7:40 pace. Won't be doing
that next week. Would be nice to get under 40 min. but will depend on how
I feel, the weather, the position of the sun... ;)

Chip - lots of great stuff happening - congrats on your job and the art contest!
Awesome artwork!

Thanks Tracy. Wow - those paces you just listed are like light speed.
Kind of an exaggeration there but you ARE a fast runner! I hope you
smash through the 40:00 barrier. It's OK if you don't too, No
pressure here.

I skipped today's run.

I've been keeping an eye on the Boston site. Just learned today that
entries are officially closed BUT the people who entered in the
2nd "window" (like me) ARE being evaluated for times FASTER than their
needed qualifying time... and (still) accepted in order of those
times. I had finished Hartford with 15:20 to spare for the 4:10:00
qualifying time so I think I still might get on the updated list --
which they say could take several days to put together.

I did not get into Boston 2017. My registering in the 2nd "window"
from 9/19 to 9/21 rather than the first window from 9/12 to 9/16
caused it. Huge disappointment for me, but that's what happened so I
learned my lesson the hard way about forgetting to register at 10:00
am on day 1. I'm assuming this is the case since my "pending" debit
card transaction vanished from my checking account ledger after 5 days
of being there.

Stanley Quarter Park. 2nd in division (Larry Chaves 1st). Got beat by Sam
Lewbel

Did the Hogsback Half today. 2:06 finish which is a 9:36 pace...my typical
half. Saw Lea there and as usual she easily passed me about mile 10. Great
weather again with nice breezes. My sore foot was fine...just a bit sore
at the end. Tracy you're getting faster! You should have some good fall races.

7 miles total - 6 @ 8:20 pace.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mike, but I don't think I'm getting faster.
Perhaps I'm just trying to achieve speed I can no longer do without putting
in the higher mileage weeks. Paces I used to do much more easily are definitely
more of a struggle now. Anyway, glad your ankle held up.

Chip, sorry about Boston. I think it's awesome to just be able to say you
qualified. You've run the race how many times now? And the fee is outlandish!
If I were you, I'd keep all the boasting that goes along with qualifying
and sign up for a more reasonably priced marathon! Or pull a Katherine Switzer.
LOL

17 miles - pace averaged out to be 9:20 but had some quicker middle miles
with a more relaxed warm up and cool down. 43 miles for the week.

LOL - I could wear a wig and really do it up big!! Thanks Tracy. You're
right, the fee is outrageous. I was bummed but life goes on -- and I'm
grateful to still be able to run and make every day count. Today I did
3.99 but we'll call it 4. My watch data cable is semi-broken again so
no map today. The pace was about 9:47. Today I start the orientation at
my new job in Chelmsford.

10k at 8:30 pace. Did part of the Apple Harvest route. Sucking wind today.
Hope to feel more peppy on Sun.

7 miles in Bath Maine at a 12:27 pace. Beautiful up here at 48f and crystal
clear. Started the long sleeves. Tracy you are racking up mileage nicely.
Chip congrats on that new job.

4.02 miles at a 10:13 pace. Did the usual backroads route away from town up
to the Groton Conservation land. Out 2, back 2. Nice overcast, cool morning
with light wind and mist.

6.08 miles / 9:23 pace thru Ayer center toward Littleton and back.

Last night I received an email from the BAA indicating I'd been accepted
into Boston! At first I could not believe it since my transaction
had been removed from my bank's "pending transactions" list.

After reading the fine print on the BAA site, I learned that their analysis
of the 9/19-21 entrants had taken quite long to verify AND that I evidentally
was STILL being considered despite my bank's decision to take the pending
transaction off their list.

This is how the BAA put it...

"... please do not assume that because your banking institution has placed
**or removed** a hold on your credit card that it means your entry status
has changed for the 2017 Boston Marathon. Institutions vary on how pending
charges are reflected. If you are accepted into next year's race, then your
credit card will be charged. If you are not accepted, then no charge will
be applied."

I am still waiting for the charge to take place, but my name is on the 2017
roster. Kind of exciting!!

Been negligent in my logging.

First off, holy crap, you might be in! Cool. keep us posted.

I have been running very short recently. About 3 miles near where I work
and / or near where I live for the last 3 days. Will run a decent 6 or so
tomorrow and take Saturday off and then run the 5 mile w/ Tray and I think
Brent and another newish friend Cassandra.
