I saw your surfing pics in the August log, Tracy! Hey, you look like
a real natural there! My surfing experience is limited to one
attempt long ago (which ended up with me being hit in the chin by the
board being lifted up into the wind -- and then with me being sewn up
with 3 or 4 stitches by the same doctor (in Florida) who sewed up one
of the original 7 astronaut's kids when they got hurt) (astronaut Gus
Grissom!) Whenever I see *anyone* actually standing upright in the
water on a surfboard -- without falling -- THAT looks pretty darn
professional.

I tried running the tiny program morse.tc, Lee. I think the EXE
version of the program (run under windows) was not the correct one to
use though (since your cool individual letters do not appear in the
output. Here is that resulting output:

enter phrase to convert to Morse code (lower case letters and numbers) :

.-. .- -.-. -.-- .- .--. .--. . .- .-. ... - --- -... . .- .--. .-. --- ..-. . ... ... .. --- -. .- .-.. ... ..- .-. ..-. . .-.

Now I am going to attempt running your program under the JSLinux
emulator you told me about to see if that reworked morse.tc program
shows a different result for tracy:

My running took a big hit last week! I was sitting on my butt for 1,
then 2... then 3 days. Then I thought it would be wise to get out
there on Thursday, August 26th to begin what was intended to be 4
straight days of 6+ mile runs. But the temp and the humidity that day
never dropped to anything less than a real feel of 85 degrees with
HIGH humidity. I ran anyway. The next morning I woke up with a 101.5
fever -- which was high for me since I my normal is usually 96.4 deg.
I called out sick and went to the hospital for a covid test. That
turned out negative (as did a flu test). I thought it might be a heat
stroke thing, but the doctor did not think there was any connection.
They could not find anything wrong with me after 3-4 other tests
(chest X-ray, blood test and urine test) They recommended I stay out
of work another day and rest and take ibuprofen -- and drink water,
etc. Temps returned to normal about a day and a half later. Maybe my
immune system was just a bit run down to begin with and that run did
it to me.

Anyway, here is a record of runs up to this morning, since August 22.

Mon Aug 23 skipped
Tue Aug 24 skipped
Wed Aug 25 skipped
Thu Aug 26 6.47 m 11:18/m (ran late: temp real feel about 89)
Fri Aug 27 felt ill. got covid test. Was negative
Sat Aug 28 rest day -- fever eventually returned to normal
Sun Aug 29 3rd day out from work to be safe
-------------------------------------------------------------
total 6.47 miles

Mon Aug 30 4.0 m 11:14/m
Tue Aug 31 4.0 m 11:09/m
Wed Sep 1 5.0 m 10:07/m

Did not go out today. Shudda, earlier. But then the rain came and ...

Chas,

Congrats on surviving all the things that you've been running up against
of late.

Also well done on the tinyC / Morse code stuff. If you look carefully at
the output of the Windows run, all it's missing is the leading T of Tracy.
There is nothing wrong with TC.EXE. The morse.tc you have on your local computer
is a old version. The current version translates uppercase letters to lowercase
letters and also displays both the characters and the Morse code. While in
your JSLinux environment, use export_file morse.tc and then copy it to the
directory where you do your Windows tinyC stuff.

Ha! I am far from a professional surfer. I sent Lee videos of the real professional
surfers. ;) Glad you're feeling better, Chip. I think I commented previously
that getting just regular sick will never be the same anymore. Pre-Covid,
we wouldn't think twice about it. Now there's so much anxiety around it.
Stay healthy out there!

So I did my 1st 50 mile bike ride yesterday with Vanessa! 15.3 mph - 3 hours
and 16 min. Omg, it was an epic adventure from the start. Before we even
left the parking lot, I cow-tipped on my bike (couldn't get my dang right
foot out of the clip) and fell on my elbow. Luckily, just got a little scraped
and bruised on the elbow. Then Vanessa and I rode toward New Haven. We
went by Yale and got to this long dark tunnel on the rail trail. I was slightly
ahead of Vanessa. Couldn't see a damn thing. I finally was able to see
that the asphalt had morphed into dirt/stones and then there was a 1 foot
drop off into a thicker area of sand and bigger stones! I yelled to warn
her as quickly as I could and literally braked right before I went over the
drop. Vanessa did not stop in time so went over the drop but stayed upright.
 Jesus Lord!

So we headed back toward Southington because that was apparently the end
of the rail trail. I thought it went to infinity and beyond?! Maybe 30
min. after that near death experience, we're riding down the trail and Vanessa
starts screaming like a banshee. I'm like is there a chipmunk (she screams
when wildlife runs out in front of her), is there a snake... She exclaimed
that there was something buzzing underneath her sunglasses and she couldn't
get the glasses off. Anyway, she got stung. No swelling or mark but she
said it hurt. I told her if we had to cut it short, we would but she wanted
to forge ahead. So there you have it. Go big or go home. LOL

Did about 4 miles w/ Barbara, Mike, Lani, and Linda at Brickyard yesterday.
Mike and Linda walked about a mile. We headed South to Red Oak Rd and back.
Lots of X-Country runners. Saw Ryan O'Conner, Brittany and others. Coffee
and bagels after.

Tracy, that sounds like a très scary bike ride (note awesome double
entendre). For some reason I can't transfer your latest surfing videos up
here.

Ran 3.71 mi @ 13:56 min/mile w/ Lani, Barbara, Marco. Mike still not running
and getting various tests to help identify what's behind his afib issue.
Did a long 11+ mile jog on Friday. Tracy, hope you and Jason will join us.
Sunday mornings at 8 at the Brickyard parking lot. We're doing 4 miles north
toward Avon next Sunday. Or longer.

Nice comeback on mileage, Chip! Lee, Jason and I will get to Brickyard eventually.
It would be great to see everyone. Next weekend though is moving weekend.
Jason will be bringing all of his bigger items over in the Uhaul. We've been
moving smaller things little by little. Lots of reorganizing over here!

Despite being busy, I had a pretty good week exercise-wise. NOTICEABLE difference
on Wed. when I ran first and then went to the gym. I had so much difficulty
lifting what I normally do. On Sat., went to the gym first followed by running
and was actually able to add 5 lbs to my maximum bench press - moved from
75 lbs to 80 lbs. My goal is 100 lbs as a max lift (which is really one good/legitimate
lift). Maybe by Feb.? Of note, in June, my max lift was 60 lbs.

I ran a 5K in Easton yesterday and managed to place 1st in 70+. A friend who's
71 placed 2nd but only because he chose to run w/ his girlfriend. He and
she became king and queen (completed their 169th Connecticut town).

Easton 5K results

Will be at Brickyard this morning for the group run.

Nice 1st place finish Lee! Cool to hear about the newest King and Queen
members of the 169ers.

Thanks Tracy for the compliment! Hey, your lift progress is great!
from 60# to 80# is cool! On Feb 14, maybe you could lift the 100 lbs :)
I have no idea what I could lift. A million year ago I MIGHT have done 125#
Today? Oh, maybe 45# LOL

On second thought, I have serious doubts that I ever lifted 125 lbs.
I have no idea where that figure came from in my head. I say this
because in 1993 I lifted a 60 pound bag of calcium choride ice melt
and got a hernia! Two times that? No friggin' way :)

Tunxis Mead Farmington Rotary Club Trail 5K. Thinking of Mike who texted
saying he was in hospital. Will probably get the operation they do to fix
afib. Barbara chose not to run it. Lani was 3rd overall woman but didn't
place due to their screw up. I fell on 2nd loop but ground was soft, roll
was awesome. Chris Chisolm won it and his dad Lee was honored on an award
in his name to the top female and male finishers.

This week was tough, but ended with a good run. I've been running too
late in the day, after work usually, and often when I'm too hungry.
I think I "may" be dragging from over-training syndrome. Runs don't
feel as energizing, etc. But it just may be because I upped my
mileage maybe a bit too quickly. Feeling ok tonight though so it just
may be normal. The long run today (14m) was NOT done with my *new*
Brooks Ghost shoes purchased 3 days ago. The older shoes I ran with
today (to prevent injury with the new ones) felt pretty stiff with not
very much cushion, but after I got some miles in, my feet limbered up
more. I put a water bottle out at the 7 mile mark this time to
hydrate on the return route. I took an old scenic route past
Fruitlands museum and out to Bolton and back. Feeling more ready for
the Baystate Half in Lowell on 10/17.
