Torrington 5 Mile Road Race - August 14, 2011
Jeanette, Rose, Linda and Lee arrived at Coe Park at 8:30. It was
overcast, a bit muggy but not hot at all. I spotted Bill Borla and Peter
Hawley. Bill lives in Torrington and pretty much "owns" this race. He
ran 33:41. And he's 71. Peter had a good one, finishing in 37:08. Rose
placed 2nd, running a 9:41 pace. She felt her 2nd and 3rd mile were slow
but she picked it up in the last two. I placed 4th, running a 7:45 pace.
Jeanette placed and was in front of 84-year veteran Anneliese Monniere.
She picked up two awards by mistake and I was the lucky guy who got her
$10 gift certificate from Dunkin' Donuts when she "turned herself (and
her extra award) in!" She was complimented by Tom Scoville, the results
announcer, for her honesty. (I just looked at the results and noticed
that he was right next to me at the finish). Dean Dziedzic, who directs
the race, ran a 10:15 pace. Dave Bacca placed 3rd in the 70-79 division.
I used to work with Dave, a Torrington resident.
We got a little wet when the race was over. The band was great and the
jump roping group was incredible. Watch the video!
Thanks as always to my wife Linda, who took these pictures, drove us
there and back and supported us in so many ways.
